Take control of your future and design a career which is energising and sustainable
We're fortunate as doctors to have had our training pathways clearly mapped out for us. However in our later careers we can find ourselves feeling a bit stuck, sometimes accepting a pattern of work which doesn't quite fit anymore and which may be causing significant compromise in other areas of life.
Since 2022 I've been running 'Career Pitstop' workshops for senior clinicians within the NHS. Many of these workshops have been run in collaboration with NHSE-SE, but I have also delivered bespoke Career Pitstops for several NHS Trusts across the UK.
The workshops aim to create an environment which encourages unhurried reflection, challenges default thinking-styles and supports creative problem-solving. A group approach is so effective for this work - tapping into the collective intelligence and sharing the common challenges of a long medical career leads to delegates feeling empowered and energised to make positive changes to enhance the sustainability of their careers.
Long-term follow-up of course delegates over the last few years strongly suggests that the course is highly effective in helping senior clinicians make small but significant changes to their working patterns and roles, and remain active and engaged within the NHS.
I have a Masters in Medical Career Management. am a certified MBTI practitioner and a trained and experienced coach. I have many years of experience in group facilitation and medical education and hugely enjoy working with groups. I am an Associate Director of Clinical Studies at Oxford University Medical School, and a coach for the Professional Support and Wellbeing Service in the Thames Valley Deanery. I worked as a doctor in the NHS for nearly 30 years - my clinical background is in Emergency Medicine.
"Radically different from anything else provided, and very thought provoking."
"It was one of the best CPD days I have done in my career."
"I enjoyed connecting with other doctors and they helped me to challenge my thoughts and assumptions. Lois was a brilliant facilitator, making it a thoroughly enjoyable and energising experience"
"Lois...the pitstop day was terrific, a rare opportunity to think and reflect in a very conducive setting. Everyone else was clearly equally enthused! Many thanks indeed."
Delegates were asked if they would recommend this workshop to colleagues:
